Very nice account of your trek. I just had one question, does one require any permits?
I was told that we need to get a trekking permit from the Forest Dept.. If so, do we get it at the national park itself? Or are some permissions from bangalore required?
The permit can be got at the RFO office in Kudremukh township. This place is about 10 mins drive from Samse village. Factor this in while planning for the trek. One needs to start the trek early in the morning to be able to return back by 6 in the evening. Hence it is a good idea to get the permits the previous day itself and sleep over somewhere close.
Would you happen to know if its possible to get permission from the F.Dept office in Banglore itself? As I understnad the forest dept. has some kind of a 'nature resort' in the national park. So I was wondering if it would be possible to arrange permits before leaving, so that we can save the time... complete the trek in a day... stay at the F.D accomodation, and visit a nearby waterfall and explore the national park the next day and return. Is that being too ambitious?

I haven't tried it. So you are on your own buddy. Apparently, things can be arranged through Aranya Bhavan near Sankey Tank.
